Or if you can't think of a 'best,' then what are the ones you recall seeing that you liked?

    My choices:
    An Early Frost
The Boy in the Plastic Bubble
I Know My First Name Is Steven
    Consenting Adult
Too Young to be a Dad.

I would LOVE to see "I Know my First Name is Steven" remade because more to the story happened to that family after the movie was made. Quite the story.

    Some of my Favorites:
Wife, Mother, Murderer (The Audrey Marie Hilley story)
Little Girl Lost (The Delimar Vera Story)

There's a lot more to that family's story! Their tale is compelling enough for a big screen adaptation. The older son became a serial killer, largely in part because he (according to what I read) felt neglected by his parents while they searched and mourned for Steven all those years he was kidnapped.

You're right, Chris, it could be a big screen adaption if it focused on the family as a whole and not just the kidnapping. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it is one day made.

    The Challenge (1970)
All-out war between the United States and an Asian country is averted when the two sides agree to settle their differences by each choosing a single soldier as champion and having the two men fight to the death on an isolated island.

    Dual (1971)
While traveling through the desert for an appointment with a client, the businessman David Mann from California passes a slow and old tanker truck. The psychotic truck driver feels offended and chases David along the empty highway trying to kill him. Early Spielberg. Trivia, When Carey Loftin, playing the truck driver, asked Steven Spielberg what his motivation was for tormenting the car's driver, Spielberg told him, "You're a dirty, rotten, no-good son of a bitch." Loftin replied, "Kid, you hired the right man."

    Door to Door (2002)
William H. Macy as real life door to door salesman Bill Porter who succeeds despite cerebral palsy. You'll cry your eyes out in some parts.

I'm throwing in some cable-made shows.

    Citizen X (1995)
Based on the true story of the hunt for Andrei Chikatilo, a Russian serial killer who, over many years, claimed victim to over 50 people. His victims were mostly under the age of 17. In what was then a communists state, the police investigations were hampered by bureaucracy, incompetence and those in power. The story is told from the viewpoint of the detective in charge of the case.

    Wit (2001)
Emma Thompson as a college professor who is forced to reassess her life when she is diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer.

And the Band Played On (1993)
The story of the first years of the AIDS epidemic in the United States.

Two more from Darren McGavin (he starred in The Challenge above)
The Night Stalker (1972) and The Night Strangler (1973)
They preceded the TV series, The Night Stalker.

    Trilogy of Terror (1975)
Especially the one with Karen Black!

I've loved many of the Hallmark movies.

ITA about "I Know My First Name is Steven". What a heartbreaking story, though.

The Terry Fox Story was a great one. I had to check online to see if the actor playing Terry actually had an artificial leg. He didn't, but they sure made it look like he did!

I know there are others that I've loved.

Our library doesn't have it and it is pricy on Amazon and Ebay. Shoot. Do you know if any cable channels run it Alan?

Actually Red, I don't think it's been on for years. Amazon was just the first place that came to mind.

Thanks for posting those clips of "I Know my First Name is Steven", Chris. It was a great movie - so heartbreaking, though.

I remember watching another "Little Girl Lost" movie about two foster parents who realized the little foster daughter they'd had since she was a year old was being sexually abused by her Dad during visitations. When they tried to stop it, the social worker yanked the child out of their home and she was returned to her parents. The movie was about their fight to save this child. It was also based on a true story.

Lucy (2003) - the biography of Lucille Ball was really good. I remember watching it on TV. She and Desi Arnez's relationship was fiery. When they were loving each other it was great, but when they fought it was explosive. I recall this one scene where they were at a dinner party and started to argue in front of guests and he up and slapped her but Lucy wasn't a creampuff who just took his abuse.
